Transport minister, Daryl Vaz, says the People’s National Party’s, PNP, statement on Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke’s departure is the clearest indication of his success in the role.
On Monday, PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell called on the Holness administration to detail its plan to manage what he calls the ongoing economic crisis, in the face of Dr. Clarke’s departure.
According to Dr. Campbell, the timing of Dr. Clarke’s move to the IMF signals his abandonment of what the PNP describes as a ‘sinking ship’.
Minister Vaz says Dr. Campbell’s fear for Jamaica’s economy without Dr. Clarke is a bigger compliment than the many congratulations he received following news of his appointment.
Minister Vaz was speaking Tuesday morning at the formal handover of the new buses at the JUTC’s Portmore depot in Braeton, St. Catherine.
He says Dr. Clarke’s successor will be in a comfortable position given the policies launched under his leadership.
Vaz also indicated that he has no desire to take over as the new minister of finance.
