Dancehall superstar Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer can't live without his Bible.
Speaking with GQ about the 10 things he cannot live without in 10 Essentials, the dancehall artiste started with a copy of the Bible and explained to GQ that one of his favourite biblical chapters is Psalm 91.
Psalm 91 speaks of God's protection and provision for those who trust in Him.
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust," read Kartel from chapters one and two from the King James Version.
He also spoke of his vow to God, one solidified before his release from prison in the summer of last year after spending 13 years behind bars for a crime for which he was acquitted by the Court of Appeal.
“Being incarcerated, I spoke out to God. I cried for help. And He replied, and I made a promise that if you get me out, I'll never stop calling your name. Never stop praising your name. Never stop being as positive as I can. And I'm keeping that promise to this day, man. For me, God is everything. God is the greatest man,” Kartel explained.
It’s hard not to speculate that the artiste is a fan of the luxury French brand, Louis Vuitton after this interview. Three of his essential items produced by the brand including: a cologne, card holder and their Avenue Slingbag.
True to his personality, Kartel mentioned that his favourite cologne from the brand is Imagination, then joking, “I have my special mix that I don't talk about. It's a secret recipe, sort of like the KFC one”.
Sharing a sentimental item, Kartel explained that he always wears two watches "Maybe I'm trying to make up for lost time," he joked. Other than his Rose Gold Presidential Rolex watch, his second, a bust down Rolex, was a gift from the fellow dancehall artiste Popcaan that he wears every day.
Unsurprisingly, his cell phones made the list of essentials that he never leaves home without as the deejay uses it as his office, communication tool and for relaxation purposes.
Referencing Kevin Gates’ 2015 hit, 2 Phones, and a TikTok trending audio made popular by creator Jools Lebron, Kartel said, “I got two phones like Kevin Gates. Definitely Instagram and Tik Tok. You can mingle, talk to the fans, know what's new, what's trending. We use Instagram to promote our stuff and TikTok. Yeah, I'm on YouTube too. I like [that]. It's very demure, is what I'm saying. It's very cutesy in a way. It's very mindful”.
Other mentioned essentials from the entertainer included his manager, TJ from TJ Records, sunglasses (his favourite is from Bvlgari), water and Sour Patch Kids or Haribo Goldbears.
