DOUGLAS Wilson was re-elected president of the TT Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA) at the organisation’s annual general meeting (AGM) on July 31.
Wilson, Express general manager, was given a two-year mandate to lead a mostly returning panel, including vice-president Christianne Elcock, CEO of Family Focus Broadcasting, and new treasurer Gerhard Pettier, acting managing director of Guardian Media.
The directors are Newsday's managing director and former TTPBA president Grant Taylor; TTT CEO Adrian Winter; Lennox Toussaint, CEO of Radio Vision; Jason Corbie, CEO of 103.1 FM; and Kiran Maharaj, general manager of Caribbean Lifestyle Communications, who is also a former president.
The TTPBA said post-AGM, the association is preparing to work with the government and journalists to combat “fake news.”
It said it "is focused on the impact of the digital technologies which have been redefining, in real time, journalism and its traditional role in a functioning democracy.
"Having the journalists trained for this era is of critical importance and the TTPBA continues to provide such opportunities.
"Alongside this, the business of media, its role, and the challenges presented by fake news and unchecked information are areas being addressed and the TTPBA hopes to soon advise of the association's positions on where government can play a useful role."
