The West Indies greatly improved their chances of a semi-final spot at the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup with a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
The win sees the West Indies top Group B.
Player of the match Karishma Ramharack, who bagged 4 for 17, and Afy Fletcher, 2 for 25, combined to restrict Bangladesh to 103 for 8 in their 20 overs. Sultana Joty scored 39 runs.
The 2016 champions then raced to 104 for 2 in 12.5 overs to also improve their net run rate.
Captain Haylely Matthews led from the front with 34 runs. Stafanie Taylor, 27, Shermaine Campbell, 21, and Deandra Dottin 20 not out were the other scorers.
Matthews says it was not by chance that the West Indies were clinical on the day.
The West Indies now have four points, the same as South Africa and England but they lead group B on net run rate.
The West Indies will close out group play next Tuesday when they face one of the tournament favourites England, a game Matthews is already looking forward to.
