It was a heartfelt moment on Saturday night as the original King of Dancehall – Yellowman handed over the first-ever Ruggu Dat Golden Mic award to Comedic Dancehall sensation Professor Nuts.
The event, held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Center in Kingston saw droves of supporters and industry players alike come out to see the historic presentation topped with music and live performances.
While presenting the Mic to Professor Nuts on behalf of the committee, Yellowman echoed the sentiments of the industry when he told him on stage that this award was well deserved and he himself is looking forward to receiving the same kind of recognition, hopefully soon.
Professor Nuts was humbled by the award and appreciated those who came out to see him be properly honored for his over three-decade-long career.
“I’m at a loss for words and you know for me that is rare, because its humbling to be recognized and appreciated especially by your peers. I’ll keep this Golden Mic safe because it’s now a part of my legacy,” Carl ‘Professor Nuts’ Wellington shared
Organizers of the event, Rugu Promotions, are also pleased with the completion of the first year’s staging of the 14K Golden Mic Award and are already looking forward to investing in more events in Jamaica this year whilst planning for next year’s award show.
“We would have loved to see more patrons at the event this year but we know it’s a growth process for a new event, we are happy that those who came thoroughly enjoyed the show. We have more in store for the Ruggu Dat brand worldwide, we are already brainstorming a date for next year’s Golden Mic Awards in Jamaica,” Christopher Brown, CEO of Rugu Promotions shared.
The Rugu Dat 14K Golden Mic Award was hosted by Yanique Curvy Diva and Chris Johnny Daley with Stellar performances from Professor Nuts, Lady G and Agent Sasco
