Jamaica’s Fabian Allen and Oshane Thomas have been named in a West Indies 15 man A team for a nine day tour of Nepal for a five match T20 International series.
Roston Chase of Barbados has been named captain of the team for the tour which West Indies White ball coach Daren Sammy says is a crucial step forward in the preparatory phase for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Sammy says the Nepal tour couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, as It offers a chance to refine the World Cup squad, defining roles and personnel more clearly.
He says with nine players in the IPL, they are now truly able to gauge and push the limits of our T20 team’s depth.
The full squad reads Roston Chase (Captain), Alick Athanaze (Vice-Captain), Fabian Allen, Kadeem Alleyne, Joshua Bishop, Keacy Carty, Johnson Charles, Mark Deyal, Andre Fletcher, Matthew Forde, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Oshane Thomas and Hayden Walsh.
Jamaica’s Brandon King was in consideration for the tour but he’ll still recovering from an injury sustained in the regional four day championship while Evin Lewis advised the selectors he was not available for the tour.
Floyd Reifer will take over head coaching duties on the tour with Rayon Griffith his assistant
The tour’s opening T20 fixture will bowl off at Tribhuvan University on April 27th, 2024.
The deadline for submission of the West Indies World Cup squad is May 1, 2024. Prior to the World Cup, the West Indies team will host South Africa for a 3-match T20 series from May 22 – 26, 2024.
Nepal will play at the T20 World Cup in Group D alongside South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
