Blown Retains KPMG Squash League Title

Blown retained their KPMG Squash League title after defeating Saints 2-1 recently in the final at the Liguanea Club.

Blown’s Andrew Bicknell beat Saints’ Leigh Dwyer in straight sets.

Saints’ Jerazeno Bell and Blown’s captain Jake Mahfood took to the court in the decider match with the odds against Mahfood based on Bell’s unbeaten record in the league since it began in late February.

Bell put on a masterful show to establish a 2-0 lead but was pegged back by a determined Mahfood who won the third set.

Bell then had a wretched game four, seemingly losing power and raking up errors as Mahfood went on to win it. Mahfood then won game five to seal the championship.

Mahfood says coaching made the difference in his victory.

The third and final match saw Saints’ captain Mario O’Connor beating Blown’s Fraser McConnell in straight sets.

Swift Swingers defeated JDF in straight sets to cop third place, while Bell took home the MVP award.
