Champion Bubbler storms to victory in Caymanas feature

UNITED STATES-bred CHAMPION BUBBLER yesterday franked her March 1 win, off an eight-month break, with another storming finish at five furlongs straight, overhauling MONEY MARKET close home to land the Linval McFarlane Trophy for overnight-allowance runners.

Since returning from her lay-up with visor removed, six-year-old CHAMPION BUBBLER has won back-to-back races by showing terrific finishing speed inside the last half-furlong.

Entering the main track fifth but not far off leaders CHOCOMO, JOY IS GOLDEN and MONEY MARKET, CHAMPION BUBBLER sat just behind BULLETPROOFCOFFEE in mid-track before motoring home in 59.3 under a hand ride from claiming jockey Tajay Suckoo.

MONEY MARKET had just pounced on 3-2 favourite CHOCOMO and course specialist JOY IS GOLDEN when 9-1 chance CHAMPION BUBBLER came flying in mid-track with 106lb, 20lb lighter than the local-bred, who was hard done by the conditions book.

Champion jockey Raddesh Roman took his weekend tally to six winners and now leads with 26. He booted home a two-timer – GREAT WAYNE and THE GENERAL – following Saturday’s four-timer. Robert Halledeen, who failed to ride a winner over two days, ended the dual meet as he started, second in the standings on 19 winners.

Gary Subratie saddled two winners to top his peers, PRETTY PERFECT beating three-year-old maidens on debut at five furlongs round and THE GENERAL, an armchair ride for Roman, finishing 17 lengths clear of MONSTER VIGOROUS in the eighth at seven and a half furlongs for four-year-olds, non-winners of two races.

Racing continues on Saturday with the seven-furlong Thornbird and Prince Consort Stakes feature events for classic-bound fillies, and colts and geldings, respectively.
