Consumer Confidence in the Jamaican economy has risen to an all-time high in the first quarter of 2025.
But, Business Confidence over the period has fallen.
That’s according to the latest results of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Business and Consumer Confidence survey published on Tuesday.
The survey was conducted by Market Research Services Limited, led by CEO and pollster Don Anderson.
Chevon Campbell has that story.
As tensions in global trade rise, confidence in the Jamaican economy saw bittersweet results for the first quarter of 2025.
CEO of Market Research Services Limited and pollster Don Anderson, says consumer confidence has risen to a record high, continuing an upward trend over the last four years.
Mr. Anderson says this was driven primarily by positive expectations surrounding changes in household income.
This was particularly prominent in areas closely related to tourism.
However, Mr. Anderson says business confidence fell off in the first quarter of 2025.
This follows a significant increase at the close of 2024.
According to the pollster, comparing the two periods suggests a levelling off in business sentiment.
Mr. Anderson says of particular concern to businesses is the impact of the ongoing trade war and other matters surrounding the election of US President, Donald Trump.
Approximately 600 people were surveyed alongside 111 businesses in a nationwide representative sample over the period.
It remains to be seen how the remainder of 2025 fares for both consumers and businesses.
