Cuthbert-Flynn Accuses Bunting of Placing Neutrality of Police in Danger

5 months ago 26

State Minister of National Security, Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn is accusing Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting of placing the neutrality of the police force in grave danger.

Her accusation follows Mr. Bunting’s recent criticism of the Police High Command for initiating disciplinary proceedings against former Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Corporal Rohan James.

Last week, Opposition Leader Mark Golding also called for the disciplinary action against Corporal James to be reconsidered.

In recent posts on X, Minister Cuthbert-Flynn cautioned Bunting against politicizing the force.

The State Minister questioned, “Can anyone remember an instance where an Opposition spokesperson publicly lobbied the Police High Command regarding the discipline and promotion of specific officers?”

She says such a practice is problematic and signals that JCF members who have differences with the High Command can resort to political lobbying.

Additionally, Minister Cuthbert-Flynn says it is “pure evil” to return Jamaica to the days when there was concern about politicization of the security forces.

Cuthbert-Flynn says Jamaica must not allow this to happen again.
