A case management hearing has been set for the defamation lawsuit filed against People’s National Party, PNP, general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell by cabinet minister, Daryl Vaz.

The hearing is set for February 20, 2025.

Dr. Campbell is being sued over comments he made on the political campaign trail in July, 2023.

While addressing a PNP conference in North West Clarendon on July 27, 2023, Dr. Campbell named Daryl Vaz and then commented on two crimes.

When the lawsuit was filed last August, Vaz’s lawyers said a police investigation and a concluded court case rendered Dr. Campbell’s attempt to connect the West Portland member of parliament to the wrongdoing as malicious, baseless and false.

Concerning the other crime mentioned by Dr. Campbell, Minister Vaz said there was evidence that he was not in Jamaica when the act was committed decades ago.

Vaz is asking the court to order Dr. Campbell to pay him exemplary and/or aggravated damages.

Additionally, Vaz is asking the court to compel the PNP general secretary to bear the cost of the suit when the outcome is determined.
