The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has announced former government Senator and Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy Limited, Don Wehby, as the 31st inductee into its Hall of Fame.

Wehby’s induction is slated for October 30 at PSOJ’s 31st Hall of Fame Banquet.

In a media release on Thursday, the PSOJ said he was being honoured for "his remarkable contributions to Jamaica’s private sector and to nation building".

"A dynamic leader, Wehby is known to be decisive, strategic and intentional, whilst still unassuming and unpretentious. Described by his peers as a man of unwavering integrity, with electric energy and a keen sense of humour, he is also a devoted family man, with a deep commitment to the development of Jamaica’s youth," the PSOJ said.

It noted that during his tenure, Wehby repositioned GraceKennedy Limited as an international company with Jamaican roots, with GraceKennedy's revenue nearly tripling, from $58 billion in 2011 to $167 billion in 2024, under his stewardship.

It also pointed out that as Group CEO of GraceKennedy, Wehby also spearheaded countless initiatives that supported education, youth development and delivered relief to those in need during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PSOJ said he played a pivotal role in the expansion and brand alignment of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships, showcasing his ability to merge business acumen with national development initiatives.

It said in recognition of his outstanding contributions to youth and sports development, the 31st Hall of Fame Inductee is also the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Over the years, Wehby has served the PSOJ as vice president, honorary treasurer and a member of its economic policy committee.

Further, in 2007, he resigned from his positions at GraceKennedy to serve as Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. He returned to GraceKennedy two years later, and became Group CEO in 2011, a role which he held until February of this year.

Wehby was also appointed to the Senate in 2016 and 2020.

He received the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) in 2017 and the Order of Jamaica in 2024.
