Political commentator, Helene Davis Whyte, says parliamentarians with dual citizenship could employ a wait-and-see approach until the matter of who is eligible to sit in parliament is settled through the constitutional reform process.
Her comment follows government senator and cabinet minister, Matthew Samuda, indicating on Thursday that he is a dual Jamaican/British citizen.
Minister Samuda disclosed in a statement that he has begun the process to renounce his British citizenship.
Opposition Leader, Mark Golding says he doesn’t feel any rush to renounce his British citizenship as he is lawfully sitting in parliament. Mr. Golding has called for a proper dialogue on the issue.
Mrs. Davis Whyte supports the view that the matter should be put to a referendum.
