FOLLOWING the abrupt departure of Phillip Williams as head coach of Dunbeholden Football Club, General Manager Roger Simmonds has revealed that the club is now moving close to appointing a replacement.
“We are very advanced, we have done some interviews and are contemplating certain decisions as to who to appoint. Within another a day or so we should make that announcement,” he stated.
The 2022 beaten finalists have endured a rough start to this season’s campaign, having lost both games played. According to Simmonds, while the start has been less than ideal, the club is looking at a coach who is “young and energetic” to enhance their brand of football.
“We are relatively new to the Jamaica Premier League, but based on our experience and performances we can be different. We are looking at a coach that is young, energetic and isn’t afraid to make mistakes. We are hoping that whoever we appoint will change certain things in terms of how we look at football.
“Dunbeholden have a certain style, where we love to put the football on the ground and play it. Therefore, we’re looking at someone who can develop that system,” he explained.
Coach Williams, shortly after his exit, shared that the team assembled for this season is a good one which needs an early victory to get their campaign moving.
“They have a decent team, and as soon as they can get over the hump and get the first win under their belt, they will get going,” Williams said.
Simmonds also echoed those sentiments, as he believes there’s more than enough time for the club to turn their fortunes around and secure a play-off spot at the business end of the tournament.
“We are very eager, that is why we have gone out and done a lot of headhunting. This was done in a bid to find that individual who can make a difference. We want to be in the play-offs, and even though we have started poorly by our standards, we saw improvements from game one to two. We also believe that we have a squad that can challenge for the title, and so we are eager to change our fortunes and ensure that we can get the ball rolling,” Simmonds added.
