Former Edwin Allen High School star Roje Stona became the third Jamaican to achieve the qualifying standard in the men’s discus for this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Stona logged a new lifetime best 69.05 meters to finish second at the Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational on Sunday.

Stona beat his previous best of 68.64 meters.

He joins Ralford Mullings and Traves Smikle as Jamaicans who’ve gone past the automatic 67.20 meters qualifying standard for the Olympics.

Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna won the event in Oklahoma with a new world record throw of 74.14 meters, beating the previous oldest men’s world record of 74.08 meters by Jurgen Schultz of the old East Germany, 38 years ago.
