Messi Delights National Stadium With Goal in Cavalier Defeat

Argentine legend Lionel Messi was on target at the National Stadium on Thursday night as his Inter Miami team beat Jamaica’s champions Cavalier 2-0 in the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup round of 16 tie.

The victory gave Inter Miami a 4-0 aggregate win, eliminating Cavalier from the tournament.

Messi, who missed Inter Miami’s previous three games due to fatigue, came on eight minutes into the second half to massive applause from a full national stadium.

The eight-time Ballon d’OR winner sealed the win for the MLS campaigners when he ghosted behind the Cavalier defence and applied a calm finish.

Inter Miami went in front in the 37th minute thanks to a Luis Suarez penalty. Inter Miami will next face LA FC in April.
