Ennis dominates in pro debut

Jerone ‘Beast’ Ennis delivered a dominant performance last Saturday at the Pickering Casino Resort by scoring a technical knockout (TKO) win over his Argentinian opponent, Marcelo Adrian Fernandez, (4-3-1), at the 1:51 mark of round one in their scheduled four-round contest in the light-heavyweight division.

The two-time Caribbean amateur champion’s pedigree was on notice early in the fight with a display of poise, ring intelligence, and skills.

Chief-cornerman Ryan Grant praised Ennis’s performance.

“He performed real well. He is a real promising talent coming out of Jamaica. I like that he’s a thinker in there, and he’s got good eyes, looking and seeing his spots to land and to move on defence,” Grant said.

After displaying superior technique and ring generalship early in the round, Ennis then demonstrated to Fernandez that he has other dimensions to his game, an overhand-right was the beginning of trouble for Fernandez that sent him crashing to the canvas.

The Argentinian beat the referee’s 10-count only to be overwhelmed with a relentless barrage of stance switching, overhand-rights and lead left hooks, which culminated in a TKO victory for Ennis in the first round. Ennis became the first boxer to stop Fernandez in the first round in eight fights.

President of United Boxing Promotions Tyler Buxton said that he was pleased with Ennis’s performance.

The victory marks a significant milestone in Ennis’s journey from amateur standout to professional prospect. Countryman and stablemate Kemahl ‘Hitman’ Russell added: “He did what he was expected to do. The formula worked - training in Jamaica and showing up and proving on the big stage. He has a bright future.”

Commenting on what’s next for Ennis, Ryan Grant stated, “We are hoping with no glitches, to keep him as active as possible.”
