The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has selected 19 female footballers between the ages of 16 and 18 to take part in a two-month training programme in China this summer. The training programme is aimed at the development of local players.
The training programme is a resumption of the sporting agreement formed between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and China, and this will be the first group to make the trip since the pandemic.
The contingent will travel to China in June and return at the end of August. During their time in the Asian republic, the players will undergo a series of intense technical training sessions to aid in their bid for promotion to the national teams.
The players were selected after impressing a coaching staff during multiple training sessions at the University of the West Indies Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence for the past three weeks.
The JFF says the federation is happy with the agreement and is pleased with the timing of the programme as it will prove to be an aid to the youth players in Jamaica as well as create vast depth in the national squads. The JFF will also be using the training as part of their short-term and long-term development strategies for the various women’s national teams.
The selected players consist of a wide spread of athletes from various parishes across the island.
