G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport captured both the men’s and women’s titles at the Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships on Thursday.
In the men’s division, it was an overwhelming victory for the hosts as they amassed 212 points. They were well clear of the University of Technology (UTech, 137), The University of the West Indies (115), Mico University (45), and Shortwood Teachers’ College (38).
In a nail-biting finish for the women’s crown, G.C. Foster tallied 194 points to edge out the University of Technology by a single point, with UTech finishing on 193. Closing out the top five were UWI with 99, Mico with 44, and Exed Community College with 29.
Rasheed Foster of Mico gave the Cross Roads-based institution its only success on the track, as the former Charlemont High athlete defended his 100m title, winning in 10.12 seconds. Dominic Williams of UTech was second in 10.24, with Jase Witter of G.C. Foster College third in 10.45.
G.C. Foster dominated the hurdles events, with Clinton Simmonds and Derrick Luke winning the 110m and 400m hurdles, respectively. Simmonds clocked 13.94 seconds to win the 110m hurdles, ahead of Joel Bryan of UWI (14.10), with Joel Facey of G.C. Foster third in 14.49. Luke’s winning time in the intermediate hurdles was 52.53 seconds, edging teammate Shacquille Gordon, who was second in 52.76.
UTech’s Roshaine Symister captured the men’s 400m in 48.45 seconds, ahead of Tyrese Ebanks of G.C. Foster (48.60), with Emil Gardener of University of Technology third in 48.76.
DOUBLE SUCCESS
G.C. Foster captured both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, winning the former in 39.43 and the latter in 3:11.47.
In field events, it was double success for G.C. Foster’s Lushane Wilson, who won the high jump with 2.15m and the triple jump with 14.93m. Alex Watkins of G.C. Foster captured the men’s discus with a throw of 47.95m, while Leonard Botia of Bethlehem Moravian College won the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.23m.
Among the women, the University of Technology’s Krystal Sloley led the way, capturing the 100m in 11.15, ahead of Mickaell Moodie of G.C. Foster (11.27) and Kishawna Niles of UTech (11.31).
Sloley had to play second fiddle in the 200m after clocking 23.48 seconds, as Roneisha McGregor of UWI won in 23.44. Moodie was third in 23.68. McGregor also took second in the 400m in 55.35 as Shana-Kay Anderson of UTech won in 52.86.
Annalice Brady of UTech was a double winner in the hurdles, capturing the 100m hurdles in 14.07 seconds and the 400m hurdles in 1:02.57.
UTech also won the women’s 4x100m relay in 44.28 and the 4x400m in 3:43.90.
