Gabby Thomas wins first race in Jamaica

American sprinter Gabrielle Thomas was the first winner at the inaugural Grand Slam Track meet in Kingston, Jamaica, as she won the women’s long sprints race group 200m, stopping the clock in 22.62 seconds today at the National Stadium.

Thomas, the reigning 200m Olympic champion, finished ahead of Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, 22.93, and Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, 22.96.

The Jamaican duo of Nickisha Pryce and Stacey-Ann Williams finished the race sixth and seventh, respectively.

Thomas, though born and raised in the United States, has Jamaican heritage through her father.
