Former US sprinter Justin Gatlin and up and coming star Erin Brown, say the comparisons between Usain Bolt and young athletes need to stop immediately.
Gout Gout of Australia, The USA’s Erriyon Knighton and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo are a few of the athletes that have been labelled as Bolt’s successors.
At the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Bolt set the 100 and 200 metres world records that stand to this day.
Bolt was 22 years old for both of those races – with his marks of 9-point-58 and 19-point-19 achieved in the days leading up to his 23rd birthday.
Since then, nobody has been able to match the fastest times in history, as Bolt’s legend grows stronger by the year.
However, Speaking on Ready Set Go, 2004 Olympic 100-metres champion, Gatlin, says track and field world should allow these athletes to define their own path.

Brown says such compressions only put young athletes under unnecessary pressure.
