Gov’t Allocates $1B to First-Time Prepaid JPS Customers

The government plans to spend $1 billion to assist 20,000 first-time subscribers of prepaid electricity service from the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS.

Fayval Williams made the announcement in the House of Representatives on Tuesday during her maiden budget presentation as finance minister.

Minister Williams says the programme to allow affordable access to prepaid electricity, forms part of the government’s thrust to reduce electricity theft.

She notes that the move will put legal electricity connection within reach for many.
