Green Pond High and Herbert Morrison Technical High will square off in Zone A in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup at the Herbert Morrison High School in Montego Bay at 3:30 p.m. today.
Gregory Daley, coach of Green Pond High, told The Gleaner that they have set certain goals this season and that will be their main focus.
“Expectations lead to disappointment. Our first goal is to achieve a certain amount of points for the first round and then move over to the second round. We have been playing well but we are not satisfied with the results, because we think we could have had better results,” Daley said.
Green Pond are second in Zone A with five points. They beat Maldon High 2-1 in their opening game, then drew 3-3 with both Irwin High (last Saturday) and St James High on Wednesday. Cornwall College are on top of Zone A with six points. Herbert Morrison are fourth in the zone with three points.
“As for preparations, there is not much more we can do. We played a game on Wednesday and are playing tomorrow (Friday) couple days apart. We have a few injuries but should be good enough for Friday,” Daley said.
Unlike Herbert Morrison who won both in 1986 and 1988, Green Pond have never won the daCosta Cup title.
Gary Grant, assistant coach of Herbert Morrison, said the team wants to rebound quickly from the defeat in the last game.
“We have to show people that ‘Compre’ are back and will challenge going forward. I am not sure of Green Pond’s style of play but I know the coaches and want to show them that we are ready to challenge them,” Grant said.
“We should have won the last game at home but are getting our heads back together and will challenge in this game,” he added.
