The Suriname Guyana Chamber of Commerce, SGCC, says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with a number of private-sector organisations, including the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association, Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Region 5 Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“This strategic alliance marks a significant step forward in strengthening trade relations and enhancing business opportunities between Guyana and Suriname. By fostering a cooperative network, the agreement aims to facilitate a more seamless flow of trade and investment, offering technical support and boosting regional and global business development through collaborative efforts,” the private-sector groups said in a statement.
It said that the agreement was officially signed during a meeting, where the chairman of the Suriname Guyana Chamber of Commerce, Dr Vishnu Doerga, presented on the current labour situation in Guyana and discussed potential improvements.
Guyanese businesses will visit Suriname from June 5-9. The trade mission will feature business-to-business meetings and a visit to the Suriname Energy Oil and Gas Summit, designed to foster direct connections in the oil sectors of both countries.
