Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Aenon Town Division in Clarendon, Suzette Barton, has expressed her party’s commitment to improving conditions in the division.
Speaking on Nationwide at Five on Monday, Barton outlined plans to build on the foundation laid by the late councillor, Marjorie McLeod-McFarlane.
Mrs. McLeod-McFarlane passed away in September after a battle with cancer. She defeated the People’s National Party’s Delroy Dawson by 92 votes in the February 2024 local government elections.
Dawson, who will face Barton in the by-election, was also invited to be a guest on the show on Monday. He initially accepted, but calls to him later went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Barton is a teacher by profession with over 30 years of involvement in the JLP. She is also McLeod-McFarlane’s cousin.
She says youth engagement will be one of her areas of focus as councillor.
