JPL live games on hold

FOR THE last two rounds of Jamaica Premier League (JPL) matches, no live games have been televised, leading to speculations about broadcast provider SportsMax and its arrangement with Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL).

CEO of the PFJL, Owen Hill, could not give a timeline for when live games would return, or if they will return before the play-offs.

However, he said rumours that SportsMax had pulled out and that the PFJL was seeking a new broadcaster to see out the season are not true.

“SportsMax will be providing coverage for the rest of the season. They are having some challenges, essentially.

“But they are the television providers. Their contract ends this season and we are in the negotiation phase. So we are hopeful (for an extension),” he stated.

“They are having some internal challenges. I think they are rightsizing, as they call it. That is essentially what we got. Outside of that, we do not know too much more.”

However, he added there is no certainty that live games will return before the play-offs.

“We want to ensure that the fans are treated with the information appropriately. So I can’t really give anything outside of what I’ve just told you. We will have to wait and see. What the fans have to do is, just make sure you are ready for the play-offs,” he said.
