JWPL: Los Perfectos, Arnett in crucial clash

2 weeks ago 7

Third-place Los Perfectos entertain fourth place Arnett Gardens in the feature Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) game at Brooks Park, today at 3:30 p.m.

After five rounds, Arnett Gardens are two points adrift of their opponents, and coach Tamara Williams said they are looking to improve. Some new players are expected to make their debut for the Trench Town-based team today, and she is looking for a big turnaround in their performance.

“It is a critical game for us. The things that we have been working on for the last two weeks, we want to bring to this game as a unit with more discipline,” she said.

She disclosed that discipline on and off the pitch has been an issue and they must improve in this area.

“We have been faltering in terms of discipline, which has caused us to be in this position.

“But, we will be bringing in some new recruits, which should make us more of a force to be reckoned with,” she said.

Los Perfectos will be without midfield ace and national midfielder Sashana Campbell, but Williams is wary of former national forward Venecia ‘String Bean’ Reid.

“They have good players and the veteran ‘String Bean’ should not be taken lightly. But, we are not really looking at what they have to offer. As long as Arnett Gardens play our style of football, we will come out victorious,” she said.

Los Perfectos coach Maurice Duncan said keeping their place in the top four is of utmost importance and with two other teams (WiFi and UWI) on seven points, getting a win is crucial.

“A win is very important if we want to stay in the top four. Arnett have been there (playoffs) before. Cavalier who we lost to on Saturday and Frazsiers Whip, the defending champions. Last year Mile Gully were fourth, but I don’t think they have that fire power this year.

“So it is very important to get the win. They are just two points below us so a win (for them) would put them ahead of us. So we have to come out positive,” he said.

With Campbell unavailable, Duncan said things will be a lot harder, but he wants his players to have more self belief.

“It is going to be very difficult. We will be playing without Sashana Campbell, one of our key players. So it is going to be a very difficult game and whoever wants it more will be victorious.

“It is just for the young ladies to believe. Last week, we played Cavalier, and I don’t think they believed. We had a meeting and tried to get them focused on the job. So it is going to be difficult, but it is not something that cannot be done,” Campbell said.
