Late voters’ list not the fault of JFF – Chung

JAMAICA FOOTBALL Federation General Secretary Dennis Chung said a one-day delay in announcing the voters’ list for today’s JFF presidential election was not any fault of his.

According to a voice note making the rounds on Friday morning, the voters’ list, which was promised on Thursday by the general secretary at the last board meeting, was not forthcoming going into today’s election.

However, when contacted, Chung pointed out that the list was already out but cleared himself of any involvement in the delay.

“The voters’ list has been sent out. It was sent out this [Friday] morning. We had told them it would be sent out yesterday [Thursday]. The (electoral) committee had indicated it would be sent out yesterday, but it wasn’t sent out until this morning,” he stated.

“But the voters’ list is a responsibility of the electoral committee not the secretariat. The electoral committee has responsibility for the election process. I just take instructions from them. It is not my responsibility, so I cannot send it out until they say.”

He noted that based on the electoral code, only the electoral committee can qualify members for voting.

“So if they do not tell me to send it out I cannot. It is the responsibility of the electoral committee to determine who can vote, and consequently, to issue the voters’ list,” he said.

Meanwhile, a release from the Electoral Office of Jamaica revealed that the JFF engaged the office to assist with the execution of the elections on election day.

However, it noted that their engagement does not include the preparation or distribution of the names of delegates representing the members.
