ONE OF the key performers in Tivoli Gardens’ impressive run in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) this season is right-back Alton Lewis.
The player has not only been a massive part of the Tivoli rear guard, but has also been a vital asset for the team going forward, with five goals and 12 assists to his credit.
The former Vere player knows he is a vital cog in the Tivoli Gardens wheel, and is highly motivated going into Monday’s first-leg quarterfinal against Waterhouse.
“This is my second season with Tivoli and I feel very proud, very pleased with my performance.
“To have 12 assists and five goals is remarkable. I have been playing the league six years now and this is my best season.
“It’s the first I am scoring so many goals and having so much assists and it’s thanks to Jerome Waite, who coached me in my Charlie Smith days and he has helped me to have a very good season,” he said.
“I know I can help Tivoli a lot. The team and the fans tell me, once I am playing there is a good chance to win.
“They always motivate me to stay focused, even if the game is not coming my way, because I can get the ball once and create something out of nothing,” he commented.
Most of Lewis’ assists have come from crosses and deadballs, and helping leading scorer Justin Dunn add to his tally is an added motivation.
“We are really depending on our leading scorer, Justin Dunn, to get goals for us. So it’s for me to provide him with the ball to score.
“Last season we finished 12th and it has been a big turnaround to finish third this season.
“Jerome Waite has put a big smile on the club and community. We are excited to be in the playoffs and we have to work and don’t take anything for granted.
“We have to stay focused, although we beat them (Waterhouse) two times for the season and they haven’t scored on us. We have to stay focused and do not take anything for granted.”
