Manning’s stay perfect with Grange Hill thrashing

A CRUSHING 5-0 win over Grange Hill High School in their Zone C ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup game on their school grounds signals a job well done, says The Manning’s School’s coach Everton Tomlinson.

Manning’s Jodon Grey opened the scoring for the winners as early as the second minute, while Kajaye Williams doubled the score in the 10th minute from the penalty spot. Manning’s went further ahead in the 24th minute through Rajon McKenzie, while Jarvis Maylor joined the party in the 34th and 51st.

“It is the team’s objective to win every game in the first round. We intend to go all the way, keep a clean sheet as much as possible and remain on top of the zone. We played a disciplined game for the majority of the time,” Tomlinson told The Gleaner.

“We achieved our objective, second game at home, scoring a lot of goals so it is a plus. It was a good performance and they played a disciplined game for the majority of the time,” he added.

Manning’s remain perfect, winning four from as many starts to stay top of Zone C with 12 points, while Grange are third on six. Black River, who also have six points, sit second on a superior goal difference.

Meanwhile, rookie coach, Junior Simister, said his team lacked focus.

“The players’ decision-making needs to be spot on. Silly penalty, silly free kick, and we started slow. We need to know where to tackle and how to tackle, it is something we teach them in training. I won’t be too hard on them because it is a young team and it my first time coaching in my life,” Simister said. Manning’s dominated the game from start to finish. During the first half, the game had to be stopped due to heavy rainfall.

In the second half, Grange Hill were more focused and applied pressure but at this point the game was already decided.

On Friday Manning’s will face Black River at Manning’s, Little London will face Godfrey Stewart at Little London on Saturday, and Grange Hill go to Black River on Wednesday, October 2.
