The National Aquatics Centre, National Stadium, is set to come alive today with the strokes and spirited splashes of Jamaica’s finest young swimmers as they compete in the two-day Mayberry All Island Swim Meet.

Joseph Reynolds, meet director, world aquatic referee, world aquatic starter, and head of the School Swimming Committee for the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica, says the championship is significant as it helps to shape the future of Jamaican swimming.

“These meets serve as pivotal moments in the journey of our future national swimmers,” Reynolds emphasised. “They provide a platform for emerging talents to shine, showcasing their skills and potential. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the growth and development of Jamaica’s swimming stars,” he shared.

The Mayberry meet stands as a pinnacle event in Jamaica’s swimming calendar, drawing participants from schools across the island. Today’s opening day of the meet will feature the high schools, boasting 28 schools and 529 athletes, while the primary and prep division will see participation from 38 schools with 551 athletes, totalling 1,000 competitors.

Expressing appreciation for the sponsors’ invaluable support, Reynolds remarked, “We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, whose contributions are integral to the success of this esteemed event. Alongside Mayberry Investments Limited (MIL), we acknowledge the generous support of Couple’s Resort, Wisynco, Max Group, Supreme Ventures Limited, First Rock Real Estate, Ultra Financier, Iron Rock, Stewart’s Auto, and Flow,” he said.

Stephanie Harrison, vice-president of marketing at MIL, echoed Reynolds’ sentiments, highlighting the event’s embodiment of community, sportsmanship, and excellence. Her company has been sponsoring the event for 26 years.

“As the waves of enthusiasm crash against the poolside, we are reminded of the transformative power of sports,” Harrison stated. “We are honoured to stand alongside our fellow sponsors in championing this spectacle. The Mayberry All Island Swim Meet embodies the essence of unity, sportsmanship, and relentless pursuit of greatness, a testament to the values that define Mayberry Investments Limited,” Harrison said.

This year’s championship promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent and determination, with future national swimmers honing their skills and vying for top honours.
