Heartbreaking and hurtful!

Member of Parliament for Central Manchester, Rhoda Crawford, has broken her silence for the first time on the rumours about her being involved in sexual relations with Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

The rumours have been peddled for years on social media since Ms. Crawford entered the political arena in 2020.

This morning, in an exclusive interview with Cliff Hughes Online, she confronted head on the speculations and accusers.

Mahiri Stewart has more.

It was riveting and gripping radio.

For almost an hour the Central Manchester MP told Hughes about how hurtful the rumours have been. She was obviously a woman with a lot bottled inside.

And she decided to vent without any prodding.

She called in to Cliff Hughes Online to respond to allegations that her negligence was responsible for recent flooding on Ward Avenue, Mandeville in her constituency.

However, while addressing the issue, the interview took a dramatic and surprising turn. The the first term MP raised the allegations being spread about her. She made it clear that the allegations have been troubling her for some time.

Ms. Crawford lamented how damaging the rumours about her had been.

One of the rumours she cited was that she was in an intimate relationship with Prime Minister Andrew Holness. And how this was partly responsible for her getting more resources to handle matters in Central Manchester.

Ms. Crawford says while she maintains a healthy relationship with the Prime Minister, some of her fellow parliamentarians of the JLP have treated her differently since the emergence of the rumours.

When asked by Cliff Hughes if there was any truth to the rumours, Ms. Crawford said no.

She says the rumours began spreading from her time in the JLP’s young professional arm, G2K.

Ms Crawford says the rumours have led to her and the Prime Minister’s wife, Speaker of the House Juliet Holness having a strained relationship.

Meanwhile, members of both the JLP and PNP have shown their support for MP Crawford following her interview on Cliff Hughes Online.

On the social media platform, X, Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Senator Damion Crawford, said, “What is happening to Rhoda Crawford is evidence that politics is in the pits. I’m sorry she felt pushed to be public.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith also had words of encouragement for the Central Manchester MP.

Senator Johnson Smith on X said, “It is a fact that women politicians have to put up with malicious rumours, it happens all over the world regardless of age, marital status.”

Senator Johnson Smith added, “We have to stand together and push back against low, nasty, and distateful efforts to break women who have the courage, strength, and desire to serve beyond themselves.”

The Foreign Affairs Minister ended her post by encouraging Ms. Crawford to stand tall and to continue her work.
