NESA By-election to Cost Approx. $30m

Director of Elections, Glasspole Brown says it will cost almost $30 million to execute the North East St. Ann by election.

The by-election is set for Monday September 30.

Nomination Day is Wednesday, September 11.

The Director of Elections says due to the size of the constituency, the Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ, will expend close to 30 million dollars to execute the by election.

He provided the figure while speaking on Nationwide This Morning on Friday.

Mr. Brown says 43-thousand people are eligible to vote in North East St. Ann.

Over 3-hundred election day workers will be needed to marshal activities on the day.

The JLP’s Matthew Samuda is expected to be the only candidate nominated by either of the established political parties.

The PNP has opted not to contest the by election.

Meanwhile, Mr. Brown says there will be no need for a special voting day for election day workers and the police.
