Dancehall sensation Nigy Boy is set to make his debut at Reggae Sumfest this year, and he teased what fans can expect during a live stream on Monday. The singer also talked about his relationship status, working with producer Rvssian, and juggling school and music.
Arguably 2024’s biggest breakout artiste, Nigy Boy, garnered the attention of Dancehall fans with his song Continent on Rvssian’s Dutty Money Riddim. The young artiste later worked with the producer again on his Payment Plan Riddim, releasing his song Judgement on the beat in March.
During a live stream with the Jamaica Star yesterday, Nigy Boy expressed that Rvssian “fly di gate” and gave him his big break. He also shared that they have great chemistry and will never stop working together.
While Nigy Boy conveyed his respect for Rvssian, the artiste said he is currently working with multiple producers as he continues to create music. Nigy Boy has been juggling music as well as school and graduated from Stony Brook University in the United States last week with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a double major in Political Science and History.
Reflecting on his experience keeping up with his studies while working on his music, Nigy Boy said it was a great experience but difficult.
“It wasn’t a breeze. It was challenging. It had its ups and downs. I was able to make a lot of wonderful friends, long-lasting memories [ … ] It was wonderful, and I’m really happy I was able to do it,” Nigy Boy stated.
He further shared that he had to make a lot of sacrifices to complete his studies and create music simultaneously. As his music career started to take off during his internship at the New York State Assembly, Nigy Boy said he sacrificed his lunch breaks to make up for the time he took off for music.
Answering eager fan questions about his personal life, Nigy Boy went on to share that he is single.
“Mi nuh have nuh time fi relationship right now, darling. I can’t do it. Single and free as a bird. I got to be accommodating. And if I can’t be accommodating to the ladies, it’s a crime. So I leave myself open,” Nigy Boy said.
The Dancehall artiste is scheduled to perform this summer at Reggae Sumfest on Festival Night 2 on July 20. While the Continent singer did not wish to give away details about his upcoming performance, he said fans can expect a performance that they have never seen before.
