NNN/Bluedot Poll: Holness Administration Closing Trust Gap

1 month ago 14

More Jamaicans say they distrust the Holness government than those who say they trust them. That’s according to the latest Nationwide Bluedot poll, powered by Total Tools.

The poll found that supporters of the opposition People’s National Party, PNP, and unaffiliated voters were more likely to express distrust in the current government.

George Davis reports.

The poll results show that the government has significant work to do in regaining the confidence of the Jamaican people.

When the Bluedot pollsters asked the sample of 1,246 respondents to rate their level of trust in the current government, 45 per cent indicated they did not trust the administration.

That’s against 43 per cent who expressed trust in the administration. Twelve per cent were unsure.

The narrow gap between those who say they trust the government and those who do not, appears to be driven by the year on year increase in trust in the government.

A year ago only 34 per cent indicated they trusted the government.

Distrust has fallen from a high of 57 per cent in September last year to 45 per cent in September this year.

The distrust in government is partly being driven by supporters of the PNP, 68 per cent of whom said they did not trust Holness and his government.

Only 22 per cent of comrades say they trust the government. Nine per cent were unsure.

The government also has significant work to do with unaffiliated voters, 51 per cent of whom said they do not trust the Holness administration.

Three per cent of this cohort say they trusted the government and 18 per cent indicated they were unsure.

Unsurprisingly, respondents who identified themselves as Jamaica Labour Party supporters expressed high levels of trust in the government at 79 per cent.

Interestingly, 16 per cent of Labourites do not trust the Holness government and five per cent were unsure.

Voters over 65-years old were also more likely to trust the government, with 57 per cent expressing confidence.

The youth, voters between 18 and 24 were far more skeptical, with 51 per cent saying they do not trust the government.

The Nationwide Bluedot poll powered by Total Tools was taken between September 6 and 19. It has a margin of error of +/- 3 per cent.
