Opposition Spokesperson on Investment, Anthony Hylton, is welcoming the passage of the new Customs Act.
Mr. Hylton says the long overdue legislation should be speedily implemented.
The new piece of legislation is aimed at modernising Jamaica’s customs arrangements which stem from a law initially enacted in 1941.
Mr. Hylton says it will greatly enhance Jamaica’s role in global logistics and supply chain management.
However, he says the attendant regulations, rules and procedures are still lagging.
Mr. Hylton also notes that no timeline has been set for the coming into effect of the new law.
