Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips, is describing the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC as a basket case.
Making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate on Tuesday, Mr. Phillips, says the company continues to bleed the public purse.
Chevon Campbell tells us more.
According to the Opposition Spokesman, any single line item of expenses accrued by the JUTC outstrips its revenue.
Mr. Phillips says if it were a private sector entity its closure would be a foregone conclusion.
While recognising the social importance of the JUTC, the Opposition Spokesman highlighted the lack of quality service provided by the bus company in recent years.
He lays the failure entirely at the feet of the Holness administration.
Mr. Phillips says under the current government, the JUTC has become the worst-performing bus company in the world.
He contrasted this with its performance under the previous PNP administration.
Meanwhile, Mr. Phillips says public transport operators should be treated as investors by the government.
