PNP Critical of Gov’t for Missing Deadline to Review Disabilities Act

Opposition Spokesperson on people with disabilities, Denise Daley, is criticising the government for what she says is a delay in reviewing the Disabilities Act within the legally required timeframe.

In a statement on Monday, Daley says the Act mandates that a review be undertaken within three years of implementation.

She notes that last Friday, February 14 marked that deadline, with no committee established to carry out the review.

She says this is not just a legal obligation but it is also a matter of fundamental rights.

According to her, by failing to act, the government is neglecting a vulnerable community that depends on this piece of legislation for protection and inclusion.
