PNP’s Desmond Chambers Wins Above Rock in Magisterial Recount

The PNP’s Desmond Chambers has been confirmed as the winner of the Above Rocks division in North Central St Catherine after a magisterial recount on Tuesday.

Following the Electoral Commission of Jamaica’s preliminary count of ballots in last Monday’s local government elections, Mr. Chambers was declared the winner by a thin margin of 11 votes.

He polled 842 votes to his JLP counterpart, Neil Powell who received 831.

Mr. Powell requested a magisterial recount.

Meanwhile, Nationwide News understands that a magisterial recount in the Ginger Ridge Division commenced Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the St. Catherine Parish Court.

And, in the Llandewey division in West St. Thomas, the JLP’s Andrea Patience retained the seat following a magisterial recount on Tuesday.

There was a tie in the division after the preliminary count last Monday.

The official count was concluded the following day and Ms. Patience emerged the victor with 1,316 votes to the PNP’s Edwin Marr 1,309.

That’s a difference of seven votes.

Following the magisterial recount, Ms. Patience polled 1,323 to Mr. Marr’s 1,315.

The JLP has control of the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation.
