Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, has labelled as erroneous, a statement by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness that the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 145 per cent when the Jamaica Labour Party administration took office in February 2016.
Dr. Holness made the comment in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
However, Mr. Robinson says the debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 115 per cent when the People’s National Party, PNP, left office in 2016.
He says in 2012, the PNP inherited a challenging economic situation with the debt-to-GDP ratio at 145 per cent. Mr. Robinson says by 2016, through determined efforts, the PNP administration reduced this.
