Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, candidate for North East St. Ann, Matthew Samuda, has filed a lawsuit against the People’s National Party’s, PNP, caretaker in the constituency, Dr. Ryan Simpson.
Government spokesman, Senator Abka Fitz Henley, says the suit was filed this week.
Senator Abka Fitz Henley, a spokesman for the JLP administration.
Samuda’s legal team submitted that in making and publishing the defamatory statements on social media, Dr. Simpson was motivated by malice.
They say Dr. Simpson intended to injure and/or lower Samuda in the estimation of right-thinking members of society.
The lawyers for Samuda say Dr. Simpson made the comments to harm the JLP candidate’s reputation, particularly in circumstances where both he and Samuda are rivals in North East St. Ann.
Samuda is seeking damages, including aggravated damages, interest, costs and any other relief the court deems fit.
Samuda’s legal team is led by King’s Counsel Patrick Foster from the law firm Nunes, Scholefield, DeLeon and Company.
