IT WILL be Millionaires’ Row all Saturday - the sixth anniversary of the Reggae 6, marked by a mandatory payout expected to exceed $26 million – plus Race 2, Series 3, of the BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series, which has a $2 million bonus on the seven-furlong maidens’ event closing the 10-race card.
SENSATIONAL MOVE should start favourite for the Harlequin Cup at five furlongs straight, an open allowance in which his stablemate, United States-bred SISTREN TREASURE, plays filler from post-position one in the six-horse field.
Hunting his second win in three starts, SENSATIONAL MOVE cruised to an easy victory at the trip five weeks ago dispatching overnight-allowance runners FREEDOM STREET and TAURUS BOY with topweight 126lb in 59.4.
Stepping up to open allowance with 111lb three weeks ago, SENSATIONAL MOVE attempted to steal a march on super-fit MAJOR DANGER but ran out of steam at the furlong pole going seven. Nevertheless, it was a gallant effort by the four-year-old colt, causing him to lose the runner-up spot to late-closing FEARLESS SOUL.
Returning to the scene of his last two wins, SENSATIONAL MOVE, though ridiculously in at almost topweight, after being allotted 118lb last out at the same level, should dominate the event.
Matching speed appears to be United States-bred MADELYN’S SUNSHINE, who is drawn widest at stall six with the track bias in her favour. However, MADELYN’S SUNSHINE had to lower sights to eke out a win among overnight runners, early August, suggesting she is not as fearsome this season.
Outsped by SENSATIONAL MOVE at the trip in February when he had stunned all, including much-vaunted stablemate DESERT OF MALIBU, MADELYN’S SUNSHINE has a steep task reversing the tables on the in-form local runner.
ABILITY, last year’s Jamaica Derby winner and Mouttet Mile runner-up, was among the line-up on September 21 when SENSATIONAL MOVE tried getting away from MAJOR DANGER. After whipping around at the start, ABILITY took no part, a second consecutive dull effort, suggesting the four-year-old might not be enjoying his change of stable, despite winning for Fitzgerald Richards immediately after being moved from Patrick Lynch.
The richest of 10 events brings down the curtains on Millionaires’ Row Day, Race 2, Series 3, of the BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series. An event restricted to three-year-olds, native-bred maidens, two runners have been supplemented for eligibility by their owners – HIMAYA and HAPPY FORCE – pitting separate generations of top trainers against each other, 14-time champion Philip Feanny and two-time title-holder Jason DaCosta.
Having not fallen under the hammer at the 2022 Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association of Jamaica Mixed Sale, HIMAYA and HAPPY FORCE were supplemented for the $2 million bonus after Race 1’s $1 million went abegging.
Gary Subratie’s THE GENERAL, who was withdrawn from the 2022 Sale, won Race 1 unsupplemented, forcing a carryover to Race 2, hence a bonus of $2m, in addition to a purse of $1,050,000, making the event the richest-ever three-year-old maiden run at Caymanas Park.
