President of the Small Business Association of Jamaica, SBAJ, Garnet Reid, says while Minister Williams delivered a good presentation, more financial assistance could have been provided for the small business sector.

According to the SBAJ, there are an estimated 422,000 registered small businesses in Jamaica.

It says these businesses generate 80 percent of the jobs in the local economy.

The SBAJ says in summary, over 1.1 million Jamaicans are employed by a Micro, Small or Medium enterprise, MSME.

In her budget presentation, Minister Williams also announced an increase in the GCT exemption for MSMEs from 10-million to 15-million dollars.

Mr. Reid says other measures can be taken to provide help for small businesses that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
