FOLLOWING LAST week’s preseason rally, action in the regular season of the ISSA urban and rural schoolgirl netball competition will get under way today.
The Nardia Hanson-coached St Hugh’s will be involved in the feature matches of the urban competition with junior and senior teams at home in Zone A action against Ardenne.
The junior champions two years ago, St Hugh’s were beaten in the semifinals by The Queen’s School last year. Their team will include two players in goal attack, Kheresha Pecco, and goal defence, Kyra Johnson, who were members of the national under-16 team in a recent series against Trinidad and Tobago’s under-16s.
“We are looking forward to good starts in today’s matches as we are in a tough group which includes the likes of Immaculate, Excelsior and the Queen’s and after last year’s loss in the semifinals in the junior competition, the girls will be hungrier this year,” said Hanson.
According to Hanson, her senior team is not as strong as in previous years having lost last year’s players.
Former champions Excelsior will also be involved in Group A action today, going up against Immaculate Conception.
St Elizabeth Technical High School will open rural competition against Sydney Pagon High in Zone C, while Hampton will face Maggotty in another Zone C encounter.
