Total exports from the island increased by nearly 17 per cent for the first nine months of 2023.
That’s according to the latest international merchandise bulletin published by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN.
According to STATIN, spending on imports for the period January to October 2023, were valued at US $6.3 billion.
That’s a decline of just under one per cent compared to the same period for 2022.
This decrease was largely attributable to lower imports of “Raw Materials/Intermediate Goods”.
Meanwhile, earnings from total exports for the period were valued at 16.9 per cent above the US $1.4 billion earned in 2022.
The five main import trading partners for the period were the United States of America, China, Brazil, Japan and Colombia.
