Supreme Ventures Racing Urges Review of Racing Rule

Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited, SVREL, operators and promoters of racing at Caymanas Park is calling on regulators of the industry, the Jamaica Racing Commission to revisit the amendments made to rule 44.

Rule 44 speaks to the enforcement of strict adherence to race start times with a maximum allowance of five minutes after published post time.

The rule which took effect at the start of this month, caused the abandonment of races one and six on Saturday’s ten race card at Caymanas Park.

Head of the Jamaica Racing Commission Clovis Metcalfe told Nationwide Sports a short while ago that they are not averse to revisiting the rule.

Metcalfe says they’re actually thinking of imposing two or three tier fines as a first option.

However he says there may come a time when the imposition of fines may do more harm than good.

Metcalfe says he is a bit surprised to hear the promoters calling for a review as they were party to several meetings ahead of the implementation of the rule.
