Straight off the jumbo jet, MC and entrepreneur Aaron ‘Local’ Fingal has touched down in Jamaica and is ready and rearing for Carnival in Jamaica. Hailing from the birthplace of calypso, soca and carnival itself, Fingal grew up with a love for carnival and the entire culture and ecosystem that comprises it.
From winning his high school soca monarch and being an executive board member of the Caribbean Student’s Association in Florida, to producing marketing campaigns for carnival bands and promoters in Trinidad, and headlining major carnival events throughout the year, both in his twin-island home and internationally, Fingal definitely knows his way around the local and international soca scene.
“As much as we like to call it ‘soca season’, soca and carnival really are year-round. From costume design, to event planning and production, the music, the band launches, the fêtes… it’s a year-round celebration and a year-round industry. I feel blessed to be a part of it and will forever fly the soca flag high. There is nothing like Trinidad Carnival, nothing like our Caribbean carnival!” Aaron shared.
On the heels of an unforgettable Trinidad Carnival 2024 season and ahead of the Carnival in Jamaica road march,we caught up with the MC to recap the top 10 hits to know for 2024. In no particular order, let’s jump in.
