Tufton Calls for Legislative Changes to Better Reflect Voter Intent

Member of Parliament and Constituency Chairman for West Central St. Catherine, the JLP’s Dr. Christopher Tufton, says there needs to be legislative changes to better reflect voter intent.

He’s raising concern following the magisterial recount in the Ginger Ridge Division in his constituency on Wednesday.

The JLP had sought the recount after Jeremiah Edwards lost to the PNP’s Ralston Wilson by 8 votes.

Following the Magisterial recount, Wilson remained the winner by seven votes, retaining the division for the PNP.

Dr. Tufton says one of the JLP’s concerns coming out of the magisterial recount is that the markings on the ballots indicate voter intent, specifically, by either a tick or an X.

Dr. Tufton, who was speaking on Thursday on Nationwide @5, says discussions on the need for legislative changes to better reflect voter intent have taken place at the Cabinet level.
