Denbigh High’s boys handed Munro College their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 win in the ISSA/JHF under-19 high school hockey league, at the Mona field, on Monday.
Munro went into the match as the favourites and wasted no time in asserting their dominance.
In the second minute, they earned a penalty corner, but the shot sailed wide of the target, much to the dismay of their supporters.
Undeterred, Munro College continued to press forward, and their efforts paid off when Nicoy Clarke passed to Ajani Josephs, who fired a precise shot into the net in the third minute, giving Munro College the early lead.
Denbigh refused to let their spirits waver and In the 17th minute, they managed to break through Munro College’s defense, with Marlon Harris finding the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.
In the 40th minute, with the final whistle looming, Denbigh High Boys launched one last attack.
A shot towards Munro College’s goal was parried by the goalkeeper, only for Zachery Ebank of Denbigh to pounce on the rebound and slot the ball into the net.
Meanwhile, in the day’s second match, “The Queens School held Denbigh High Girls to Goalless Stalemate.
