The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica, says it’s disappointed by a social media post from PNP President Mark Golding which failed to acknowledge Prime Minister Andrew Holness at a recent Labour Day event in Kingston.
According to the youth arm, the event was organised with a view of displaying national unity and communal spirit among our leaders.
Young Jamaica says Golding was invited to the event by culture minister, Olivia Grange, to join the prime minister at the National Labour Day Project to show a united effort.
However, it expressed disappointment that Golding’s social media post only covered the presence of himself and the mayor of Kingston.
It says there appeared to be an intentional effort to ignore the presence of Prime Minister Holness.
Young Jamaica also sought to denounce, what it notes as an emerging trend, where supporters of the PNP sing the party’s anthem at events intended to generate unity.
Describing the action as tribalism, Young Jamaica is calling on the PNP leadership to ensure it’s discontinued.
Over the weekend, the PNP called for a revised social media code for government ministers after a social media post by Culture Minister Olivia Grange failed to acknowledge former Prime Minister PJ Patterson in a picture posted by her account.
